Can You Have a Photo Booth in a Small Backyard?
Yes. Absolutely yes.

Your backyard is small. You still want the booth.
You are hosting at home — maybe a birthday, a baby shower, a graduation party, or an intimate backyard wedding. You love the idea of a photo booth, but when you look at your yard, you are not sure it will fit. You are worried the equipment will take over the whole party and leave no room for guests to move around, eat, or dance.
We hear this concern all the time. And the answer is almost always: it fits. We have set up in backyards across La Crescenta, Pasadena, Glendale, and throughout the San Fernando Valley that were much smaller than you might think. Here is how.
How we make it work in tight spaces
Open Air booth: 8x8 ft
Our most popular booth for backyard events. It includes the camera, lighting, and a backdrop — all within an 8x8 ft footprint. That is roughly the size of a small area rug. It tucks neatly against a fence, under a patio cover, or next to the dessert table.
Drop-Off booth: 4x4 ft
Our self-serve Drop-Off booth is even more compact at 4x4 ft. It sits on a table and runs on its own for 6 hours. Perfect if you want the photo booth experience without needing space for an attendant or a large backdrop setup.
Audio Guestbook: 2x2 ft table
If space is truly minimal, our Audio Guestbook needs nothing more than a small side table. Guests pick up a vintage phone and leave a voice message. No camera, no backdrop, no footprint to worry about — just a beautiful, memorable experience.
Power and lighting: handled
We need one standard household outlet. We bring our own extension cords and professional lighting. No special electrical setup required. If you have an outdoor outlet or can run a cord from inside, you are good to go.
Where to place the booth in your backyard
- ★Along a fence or wall: The backdrop goes flat against the fence, so you only lose depth in one direction. Guests stand in front — the rest of the yard stays open.
- ★Under a patio cover: Great for shade during daytime events and protection if the weather turns. The covered area keeps the lighting consistent for better photos.
- ★Next to the dessert or bar table: Placing the booth near a natural gathering point means guests discover it organically. They grab a drink, see the booth, and jump in.
- ★Flower wall as backdrop: A flower wall backdrop saves space compared to a step-and-repeat banner because it mounts flush and doubles as decor. It looks stunning in photos and takes up less room.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much space do I need for a photo booth?
Our most compact option is the Audio Guestbook, which needs just a 2x2 ft table. The Drop-Off self-serve booth fits in a 4x4 ft area. Our Open Air Photo Booth, the most popular choice for backyard events, requires approximately 8x8 ft including the backdrop and lighting. We will work with whatever space you have and recommend the best setup during our pre-event consultation.
Do you need an outlet?
Yes, we need one standard 110V household outlet within about 50 feet of the booth. A regular outdoor outlet or a single extension cord run from inside the house works perfectly. We bring our own heavy-duty extension cords and power strips. No special electrical work is needed.
What about outdoor lighting at night?
We bring our own professional lighting with every setup, so the photo quality is excellent regardless of your backyard lighting. Our lights are battery-powered or plug into the same outlet as the booth. We have lit beautiful sessions under patios, in completely dark backyards, and everywhere in between. Your photos will look studio-quality.
Can you set up on grass?
Yes. We set up on grass, pavers, concrete, gravel, decks, and patios regularly. For grass setups, we use stabilizing feet and protective pads so everything stays level and secure. We have done hundreds of outdoor events across Los Angeles County without any issues on natural surfaces.
